(1978) This was my first entry in a Parade of Homes exhibit and my first
best interior.  All of the woodwork including the stairs were made out of

Cherry wood.  The interior doors were Pine as this was the standard wood
used for interior doors in this time period. The entry door is
Red Oak with
Walnut accents. This was my first custom door. I used a sandwich type
assembly with a plywood core which resulted in the splined Oak planks
being fastened to the plywood core and not each other.  This was a great
technique to implement because the interior or exterior could move without
effecting the doors integrity. I eventually quit making exterior doors
because I've come to find that future owners do not know the importance of
maintaining these doors properly.  I feared that down the road, people
would think that these doors were not constructed properly. This was my
first house using 3 1/2 inch casing which I made on an old hand fed
molding machine. I believe this machine was a first generation
Williams &
Hussey.
I'm not sure what the brand was because it was a long time ago. I
borrowed this particular machine from the attic storage of an old
lumberyard here in town.  This resulted in me purchasing my first
Williams
& Hussey.
My colleagues thought it was an amateur's toy; but this machine
resulted in a lot of work for my company before specialty mill work became
available on an affordable basis.
