| This 1998 House turned out to be a sleeper. No way did I think we would win Best of Show for the kitchen. We were up against a kitchen with an unlimited budget and this one had a very conservative budget. As you can see, it's very small but the women judges loved it, so I got lucky. The judges especially liked the china cabinet. This was the first time I used a raised dishwasher. Since then, I have put raised dishwashers in every kitchen the design will permit. Most homeowners love the idea. I can't believe it took this long for it to catch on big-time in the marketplace. We also won best exterior. I quit using real wood for exterior work two years ago because the upkeep is just too much trouble and most homeowners don't do the maintenance that's required each year. This one rotted out in about seven years even though I used all kinds of preventive measures to protect it from the weather. |
